Description
A Cockfight in Lucknow - Oil painting by Johann Zoffany. The painting depicts a cock match between Asaf-ud-daula, Nawab Wazir of Oudh (standing in the centre) and Colonel John Mordaunt (standing on the left in white). Also in the picture is Claude Martin (in uniform, seated on the dais), Colonel Antoine Polier (red coat, standing under awning), John Wombwell (seated to the right with hookah), Stand beside Wombwell is Ozias Humphrey (artist with hand on Zoffany's shoulder). Standing far right corner, with blue coat and white bird, is Robert Gregory (assistant to the Governor-General's rep). The large guy in white, sitting right foreground cock is Lt Golding of the East India Corps of Engineers
