Der ganz geöffnete Altar zeigte den Skulpturenschrein und war lediglich an hohen Feiertagen zu sehen. Das noch nicht endgültig entschlüsselte Bildprogramm stellt Szenen aus der Schöpfungs- und Heilsgeschichte dar. Der Schrein wird von den klugen und törichten Jungfrauen bekrönt. Um die zentrale Kreuzigungsgruppe sind verschiedene weibliche und männliche Heilige mit ihren Attributen sowie Kirchenlehrer unter Baldachinen angeordnet. Die Mitte der Predella zeigt die Verkündigung an Maria. |
