English: Lot of 5 posters from the Peace and Freedom Party, circa 168. Though candidates with the party affiliation first appeared on ballots in 1966, the Party was officially founded on June 23, 1967. Gathering over 100,000 registrants, the party qualified for ballot status in California in January 1968. Black liberation and anti-Vietnam War were the major platforms for the left-wing party. Items include:
Cleaver for President, Peggy Terry for V.P. I.P.U. Los Angeles: 1968. 17 x 22 in. With photographic image of Cleaver delivering a speech. With the campaign slogan "All Power to the People," the election date, and the party. Cleaver, although he was not 35 years old, was nominated and ran on a platform of ending the war in Vietnam and Black liberation. "I.P.U. 416" printed in the lower corner, likely a printer's union.
