English: It was a great surprise for me to see this here, in this submarine a long time ago I came very close to being killed. It was in refit and I was doing work on the boat, slipped in the conning tower and got a serious injury, a large cut about a foot long. Oh well ancient history now and I am fine.
The Onondga is the only submarine open to the public in Canada. Discover the lifestyle of submarine crew members confined within a 90 meter ship for months. The ONONDAGA is the Canadian submarine with the longest active career in the history of the Canadian Navy. It was in service for 33 years. It travelled more than 500,000 nautical miles be that more than 23 times around the world. About half the distance covered was underwater. It visited more than 53 ports in 12 different countries and was under the command of more than 25 commanders during its long career. A major part of this career was under the patronage of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). |
