| Description |
English: From a flyer: "It was 1914 when wealthy, retired industrialist James Deering began to build his magnificent estate in the subtropical forest along the shores of Biscayne Bay. Inspired by eighteenth-century Italian villas, his vision included adapting northern Italian-Mediterranean style architecture to Miami's subtropical climate."
The gardens are popular as a site for families to photograph their daughters on reaching 15 years of age. Hurricane Irma in 2017 saw some damage to the property, fauna and flora. Measures were taken to avoid subsequent further damage. I just hope the recent (September 2024) tropical storm has not done any damage. vizcaya.org/ |
