ART USED: Iridescent interpenetration, Giacmomo Balla (1912)
*******
Giacomo Balla (1871-1958) was an Italian painter, art teacher and poet best known as a key proponent of Futurism. In his paintings he depicted light, movement and speed.

I've been thinking about your post on Mona Lisa, and it helped me realize my feelings and thoughts about it. Like you, I was really put off by the lyrics. It's super catchy, so I can turn my brain off to enjoy it (and seeing it in concert definitely was so much fun lol), but if I even for a second start actually paying attention to it, then I feel all icky.
The difference between it and Seven/3D for me, though, is the framing. Ostensibly, all 3 songs are about wanting to have sex with a girl, but Seven and 3D focus more on the sex while Mona Lisa focuses on the girl. Like in JK's songs, the mention of the girl is basically always just in relation to him wanting to have sex with her (at least his parts). J-Hope's Mona Lisa, on the other hand, is all about the girl and her looks and how those things entice him to want her. Like you said, it's subjective, but the latter feels objectifying to me. (I came back to this after typing the whole message, and I wanted to add: comparing a woman to a piece of art is inherently objectifying for me. Again, just my opinion, but this song is just expanding on an idea that's rooted in objectification. Like yeah, it's just a song; it's not that serious; it's just J-Hope expressing how beautiful he finds this girl. Sure, but I that doesn't change how I feel about the lyrics.)
(Sidenote, I'm also aroace, and for me, Seven and 3D (JK parts) are just like coming across smut scenes in books/fics. It does nothing for me, but I'm not disgusted or put off by it or anything. I can appreciate it for what it is. I don't know if I would attribute my dislike of Mona Lisa to being aroace, though. Like, it just doesn't feel right for me to say that being aroace has made me more sensitive about what I perceive as objectification.)
Hi anon, thank you so much for sending this in! Like I said, I'm pretty lost with myself on this topic right now and that's very strange for me. Usually I can dissect and describe exactly why something is bothering me. So I'm exceedingly grateful for the people that are sharing their viewpoints, especially my fellow aspecs.
The main reason I was thinking it may be influenced by my aspec is I tend to fall into the demisexual category most days (Although, I really struggle with the concept of labels period so even classifying it as this doesn't feel right). But the idea is that sexual attraction only develops after there's an emotional bond first. Which is obviously not part of this song. But let's be honest, what catchy sexy songs talk about emotions at the same time? Not very many, and I told have a problem with those. So I don't think that's it.
I was talking with someone about the idea that maybe it's the expected level of maturity. Let's face it, most of ARMY feels like we know the members of BTS pretty well so having some expectation about their level of maturity is not surprising. JK is more easily accepted of releasing 3D because he was younger than the others. But Hobi releasing a song like ML AFTER completing his military service? Idk i guess I did have certain expectations for him.
Your completely right about Seven and 3D being like smut scenes. Everyone knows what these songs are about and it's clear to opt in/out when you're up for it. But no one's talking about ML being in the same vein. Like we're in the wrong for saying that this should be treated as opt-in/out-able. (Boy that sentence is awful grammar but I don't know how else to write it right now)
Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and viewpoint. I still don't think I have an answer for myself but it's so nice to know that I'm not alone in having been bothered by it.
So...Hobi's song Mona Lisa has taken me on an unexpected journey. But I want to be clear, I have not yet arrived at a destination and I'm not sure that there will actually ever be one. My thoughts are purely about my own reaction and I'm not trying to persuade anyone else that they should feel any sort of way about this. I'm also not making any statements regarding the value of this music or those that enjoy it. So for any of you that decide to read through this post, just keep that in mind.
If there's any reason you haven't listened to the song yet, please do so and have your own impressions with the song without my viewpoints skewing your experience.
...I couldn't resist, it looks so much nicer all together, without the tags in between them all. So.. I guess this is my first actual gif set rather than just individuals...
Check out this post if you want to know why I made these. There are links there to the individual gifs which have the sources linked if you're looking for that.
Happy Anniversary to FACE! It does NOT feel like it's been two years! Still my favorite solo project from any of the members.
Ooh same. Kinda similar but more figuring things out, Army were talking about the meaning behind the locks for the new memories drop, and the link to the fake love teaser on twitter the other day, and how JK is given a key, and how a lot of merch from chapter 2 was keys, and Hobi has a box on stage, it’s all so intriguing and I hope they bring their layered messaging back too
Hi anon,
This is interesting. I'm glad some people are still finding connections.
Although, if I'm being truly honest, nothing in ch.2 has really fed this desire for me. At best, the hints and connections have felt like a faint echo. The closest for me was definitely Jimin's two albums. FACE (happy 2 yr anniversary btw) completely fulfilled this from a musical and lyrical standpoint but the surrounding content didn't have enough development to truly reach its potential. And MUSE had hints of discovery in the promotional content but the music itself was too surface level. I absolutely adore SGMB as a fun listen but that album was designed with commercial success as a top priority and I am yearning for more substance.
I can't really get behind merch-focused depth either. But I've never been a big merch person so no surprise there.
I'm sooooo curious what their musical priorities will be when returning as a group. Each of the members have had significant growth opportunities the past few years. That's going to be a huge shift in how they collaborate. I can't wait to see what apects of their solo methods emerge in the group projects.
Thank you for sharing some of your thoughts with me!
...y'all wanna know one of my favorite things about being a fan of BTS? There is ALWAYS so much more to explore. ALWAYS. You think you know everything about something? Nope, never.
I was watching the Fake Love mv today...you know as one tends to do...and I noticed something I've never connected before.
The Fake Love mv was pivotal in my BTS journey, i could not even begin to estimate how many times I've watched that mv. I watched so many ppl trying to explain it. I've seen every behind-the-scenes, extension, everything that has officially been released about this.
This.
We know the choreography includes hands covering mouth, ears, and eyes.
But I never previously noticed that the hands in the background image were making the same motion of covering mouth, ears, and eyes.
Anyway, just thought that was neat. I really hope we get back to the days of layered meanings leading to a storyline. I miss it.
Psst, today is the 6 month anniversary of this blog. I don't have any bonus polls prepped but I wanted to at least acknowledge the occasion.
Huge appreciation to all of you who have played along! I won't tag anyone but those of you that are frequent participants, please know that you are the lifeblood of this blog. It's definitely not easy keeping both this and @bts-polls running every day but y'all give me the motivation to push through!
Thank you and I hope you all have a fabulous day with a lovely week as well!
Six months of two daily poll blogs! No wonder I'm not making progress on any of my other posts!
I have a really cool set of posts regarding all of the member duo combinations but I've hit a wall with converting the visuals Ive made into gifs properly. I'm not sure if it'll ever get finished at this point.
I've been making progress on my Run BTS rewatches but every time I go to make the gifs, I end up trying to make the above work and don't finished what I need to.
The last series I'm working on right now involves quite a bit of research for me since I wasn't in the Fandom during the early years and need to rewatch a bunch of content. I still have some hope it'll be ready for y'all before the members' ms is complete...somewhat..
Anyway, all this to say I'm working on stuff, slowly but surely.🙃
If you have Spotify reblog this and tag what your number one song on your “on repeat” playlist is.
Sometimes you need to read something twice to get it. You might need to watch a movie three times to understand it. You might have to have that album on repeat for a week until the lyrics make any sense. You're allowed to engage with it and can keep engaging with it until it means something to you. People will see a painting at a museum and laugh about not getting what the big deal is but like you can come back, you can see it at another time, and maybe that next time it'll be different for you. I'm of the belief the "media literacy crisis" would solve itself if more people just sat down and did it again. Watched, read, played, listened, etc like I don't think people are getting more ignorant necessarily I just think we're not glorifying personally replaying things nearly as much as we should be.
From my perspective, too much weight is usually placed on 'First time reactions'. Yes, these are interesting as a concept and honestly, I love having some reflection after brief encounters with any piece of media but there is also so much more to explore when diving further. Especially if you approach it with the mindset of active engagement and not just consumption.
But alas, I'm obviously biased. 😉
I didn't notice until I was drafting this poll but the order they hold hands in for this piece of the DNA choreography is the same as their official line order. The sides are just mixed because JK crosses his arms.
YG - V - JN - JK - RM - JM - JH
I'm rewatching AYS because today's poll on @bts-polls brought up my nostalgia.
Y'all remember in episode 1 when Jimin orders the infamous black and bleu burger that wasn't his style? Jimin even looked up the menu on the drive so that he'd know what to order but they didn't have the ham and cheese one he wanted.
Immediately after looking at the menu, they make a comment that there's no American burger either. I noticed there was actually a nicely-focused shot of the menu so I paused it to see what I would order if I was in a similar situation (do y'all do this too? Just me?). Anyway look at what I noticed:
I just thought it was cute. We see JK get influenced via his food radar and seeing what other patrons have ordered so that's why he didn't get it. Poor chim chim.
Anyway, when's the last time any of you rewatched AYS? I showed my dad some bits over the Christmas holiday but it's been a while for me. Always such a joy.
