WHO AM I: I produce melanosomes to protect the skin from UV radiation. WHERE AM I LOCATED? I am located in the dermis, epidermis, the eye (iris and retina), and the internal ear. SOME FUN FACTS: The color of the skin and hair is determined by the number, size, type, and distribution of melanosomes. The number of epidermal melanocytes is identical in black, white, and asians.
