We decided to go with a fixed bed and installed 2 sets of 48" piano hinges so that we would be able to access our garage storage from inside the van. We considered a bed-to-table conversion because it seemed like a really convenient use of space, but we love the storage space and ease of use that comes with having a fixed bed. In the 21st video in our van build series, we built our platform bed! We decided to go with a fixed bed and installed 2 sets of 48" piano hinges so that we would be able to access our garage storage from inside the van. The bed across the van is approx 174cm. The lengthways bed extension goes up to 195 cm to get this length we have reinforced the extension with steel so the extended section is very strong and stable it does not move as you climb onto the bed. The third berth is 172cm by 90cm and plenty of space above which is pretty good for a third bed, perfect for unexpected guests or children.
