Henri Hagelberg on Instagram: "How to prevent and fix cracks in textured art? 🎨 Primary reasons for cracking in my experience are either using poor quality texture paste or spreading the textures too thick in a single layer. Although you could make your own texture paste easily (I shared a tutorial reel two days ago, you can find it from my profile), if you plan to sell your artwork, I'd recommend using a ready made texture paste intended for arts and crafts. Different manufacturers call their texture pastes with different names, so look for terms such as texture paste, structure paste, modelling paste or molding paste. I use a variety of different texture pastes, depending on the design I am trying to achieve. For example, when creating arches I like to use a more fluid paste, like the premium paste by Viva Decor. The most common paste I currently use is the fine texture paste by Viva Decor. Other good brands include for example Liquitex, Golden and Amsterdam. You could also use for example sand together with acrylic paint to create structural effects. For educational purposes, I also occasionally make my own paste from filler and paint. Henri Hagelberg on Instagram: "How does it turn out? 🎨 Join me in creating 'Coarse Dots', a rougher, more wabi sabi, version of my classic coloured Dots textured art series. How do you think it turned out? 🙌 Contrary to the other 'Dots' paintings, this one has less textured and thus more emphasis on the background. I made the background with several layers of acrylic, and added some extra interest with a little sgraffito. The actual textured elements were lightly coloured, and I used silica sand to add a little extra coarseness to the paste.
