Well, it's the first day of spring but Imma tell you, if you walk outside, you certainly will not believe it. The sun is shining. That's true but y'all it is cold and you can't get out there without a sweater. So, we're just making the best of it though. We just thankful spring is here. So, we love the sunshine. Y'all today, we are going to be making a pound cake. Everybody loves pound cake and you can serve it in all kinds of ways. So, if you have my cookbook, turn to page one to and that said mommy's pan pound cake because that is my mother and this was her pound cake and I just I I love it it's I've tried lots of recipes but I'm going to tell you this one is the best alright now today we are going to just get started right here and guess what we don't have to set the oven today this is called a cold oven pound cake so what you do is it, you get it in your pan, you put it in the oven, and then you set the oven. So, that will come later. Mm hmm. Alright, the first thing is three cups of sugar. So, we'll just get that started. So, that's one to and three. That's a little hard for KK to try to get in there and get that. Tiptoes. Alright now. Unsalted butter. Two sticks of unsalted butter. Mhm. And it needs to be at room temperature. So I sat this out this morning. So it would be soft enough. So we go drop that. Just right in there. And then drop the other stick. And this also calls for Crisco. So, alright. A half a cup of Crisco. Now, if you use the Crisco sticks like I do, they're different from butter now. Um the Crisco stick is one cup for a whole stick. So, a half of that stick is a half a cup and so, a half a cup of Crisco. And I'm going to tell y'all when you look at those Crisco sticks I boil what is half because a lot of times they have wrapped that thing and it's not a half is not actually a half alright we just go put our beater on here and we just go turn this on KK and let that mix for just a few minutes until it gets well blended and that butter sugar. Yes, the cleaning was one another. Oh y'all I do the jumbo. The jumbo puzzle in the paper and guess what? One of the jumbo words was today. Butter. Oh it just thrilled me. So so we'll let this cook and we I mean I mean mix and we'll be right back. Okay y'all. This calls for five eggs. And so what it says is to put them in individually. So alright we're going to put that in there. So what you do is once the yellow breaks, that's good enough. So, we're going to put these other four in there and we'll be right back. Okay, here's our last one. Number five and y'all, I use the egg lines fast, extra large eggs. Alright, put that in there and then we're just going to let that mix around. Y'all we don't have to mix this a whole lot at this stage of the game because at the end of this, you let this thing for 10 minutes. So, all we're trying to do is get the ingredients in there. We don't just dump em in there but we're going to get the ingredients in there. So, alright. The next thing is three cups of all-purpose flour and one cup of buttermilk. Now, if you don't have buttermilk, you know, you can make your own. So, it's what you do is just a cup of regular milk and a teaspoon of vinegar just white vinegar alright so what we do is we alternate here so I'm going to put in one cup of flour and then I'll put in half of this buttermilk. I'll put in another cup of flour. The rest is buttermilk and then the third cup. And alright, I want y'all to see me do this one cup because then you're not going to have to watch every cup. Alright, I cut my mixer off so a little. I mean, KK don't get a flour bath. Alright. So, you cut it on kind of slow because if you don't, this filter all over you. It is so pretty. Alright, we'll be right back. Okay, I put in a cup of flour then I put in a half a cup of the buttermilk then I put in another cup of flour and y'all that's all-purpose flour. I think I said that but just in case and then we do one more cup of flour here at the end. Okay, okay, okay. Let that, let them get acquainted with one another and then we go put our vanilla in there. Y'all know I don't measure. So, hmm a good generous teaspoon of vanilla. We're going to let this mix a minute. Imma scrape the sides of the bowl down so everything is incorporated into the venous of the mix and then we'll be back and I'll show you we have set our time. Okay, we're going to set our timer now because this beats for 10 minutes and y'all that's very important and so, that's why I said when you're mixing it along, you don't have to you know, feed it in between and all that. We're just trying to get all the ingredients in the bowl and get them well acquainted with one another and then we set our timer on 10 minutes and then you just let it mix. You you don't have to stand, you don't have to do anything to it. You don't have to be doing anything. Just let it mix and when that time goes off, we'll be ready. Okay, y'all. That was the magic sound. Okay. And y'all this is funny. KK who does not cook much. Her husband always says if he needs to hide anything from her he puts it in the oven. That'll give y'all some idea. Alright. We just go get as much of this cake batter off of here as we can. Oh goodness. Y'all remember when we used to lick the the betas. Mm. Well I don't guess anybody licks the betas anymore. Tell them about the mixer. That's what she started to tell. Oh yeah. Yeah. What I was going to tell you was KK doesn't. She said well mama. She said what if you don't have one of those mixes. Well good news for you. You can use a hand mixer. You just mix it in a bowl and you use the hand mixer like we use this. The only thing is when you come to that 10 minute part guess what? You cook, you stand there and you do it 10 minutes because y'all that's what makes the consistency of this pound cake so wonderful and it is so light. Oh my goodness y'all. It is so good. And I just love to take it to people when it's warm. Oh, isn't that? My son and his wife over here one day and I took one out of the oven. I just sliced it and put it right there on a plate for em and they had it right out of the oven. Oh man, that's next to heaven. Tell you the truth. Alright. I always keep a pound cake on on my counter. So if you come by to see me, guess what? We'll have pound cake and iced tea. Right there in the oven. We're going to set this on 300 degrees. 300. Okay? And then we will set our timer for an hour and a half. Voila. So, I guess we could just do something this afternoon but but anyhow, we're going to let this cook and we'll just let you see the end results after a while. Okay y'all. Oh this house smells so good. Yes it does. Yes. Oh y'all look at that. Mmm. Ain't that beautiful? Sit it right there on that cooling rack. And then what I'm going to do is I'm just going to push this in a little bit Okay and then we just going to let it cool for a little bit. Okay. Oh y'all this thing smells so good. Y'all look at that pretty little plate. That was my husband's mother's China. Ain't it pretty? Alright. Oh y'all Imma tell you this thing. Kaylene. It smells so wonderful. Mmm. Y'all. Mmm. Yes. Oh my goodness. I wish y'all were here and you could have a piece of this cake. I keep a pound cake on my counter so if you ever come by to see me, we can have a piece of pound cake. Now, You can serve this in a number of different ways. Now when we think about Easter coming up and we think about things you know that we need to have on hand for dessert. This is perfect. Because you can serve it just plain. Just like this. You can put strawberries on it. You can put ice cream on it. You can put peaches on it. Just any number of things. And dress it up. Put your little whipped cream on it. And maybe drizzle some chocolate syrup over it. I want y'all to look at my my snowballs. Now they're green right now. But y'all this is Chinese snowball. Next week they will probably be white. They'll be snow white. And I'll get Kaylene to go out and take a picture of the bush. Oh KK can tell you it is oh well I have two of them actually. Gorgeous. And they're about 25 feet high and they probably have a thousand snowballs on them. So it really is a beautiful sight so it's something that I enjoy my neighbors enjoy it everybody that rides by enjoys the snowball so it's just something that everybody can just look at and it's one of god's wonderful creations that's what we love so about it alright I hope all of you have just a good rest of the week now we'll tell you one thing after this sits a day or two slice it put plenty of butter on it broil it toast it. Ah that's the way a lot of people like it. So it's good. And with sweet tea, coffee, whatever you prefer. We like sweet tea here. So everybody have a good rest of the week.
