Fizzing Colors
This fizzing colors science activity is perfect for young children. The teacher will provide the students with a bin full of baking soda. The teacher will also prepare different cups full of colored vinegar. Children will be able to use a pipet dropper to suck up and push out the colorful vinegar onto the baking soda. When these two substances meet, the child will be able to see how it makes the color fizz. This would be a great activity to do with small groups.
Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is a very fun hands-on small group science activity. The teacher will fill up a bowl with ice water, and then provide students with a piece of yarn and some salt. The students will place their yarn in the ice water and use the salt to make a strong connection between the ice and the string. Children must wait 10 seconds after adding the salt to make sure the bond is strong. Students can then pull out their string and see how many ice cubes they caught.
Dancing Rice
This dancing rice science experiment is perfect for ECE students in learning how different ingredients react to each other when all mixed together. This would be a full group activity where students would group up into smaller groups. Each group would be provided with a clear jar. The groups will then fill their jars half way full of water and add food coloring, 2 tbsp of baking soda and mix, 1/4 cup of Instant rice, 2 tbsp of white vinegar. Wait just a couple minutes and watch the rice dance!
