Cereal Box Cartoon smiles

Cereal aisle selection, sugar content and cartoon mascots escalated in the 1960s. By the 1970s, the options for a morning bowlful of a sugar-coated shit reached bizarre extremes. Kellogg's and others waged war with their animated tigers, panthers and assorted smiley-face cartoons. These cereals were seen by many breakfast-table captive-audience sugar-junkies as a highlight of childhood, but while their Mamas were killing themselves with cigarettes, their darling kids were heading for obesity.
