One thing I have found helpful to overcome communication barriers within an agile team is by using Kanban board for daily stand up meetings and if we have additional topics we used to set them aside by naming them ‘parking lot items’ which are to do lists that we used to go over at the end of the meeting. This way we used to avoid going off topic and long meetings. We could also use charts and burn-down charts in sprint reviews which helped engagement within the team. Planning poker website/tools are also a good option to promote active collaboration.

I always suggest and implement sessions focused on team building, during which we set up agreements on how communication should be carried out moving forward. I seek feedback from my peers to understand what is missing, what we should do more frequently, and what isn’t working. This is crucial. Having something visual or a method that everyone agrees on to avoid assumptions. You don’t want to be in a meeting where it’s all talk, and everyone assumes you know what you’re talking about.
