Washed Out - "Waking Up" a solar eclipse live performance, nominated at this year’s UK VMA's. DP Adam Madrzyk on why he chose ALEXA 35 for this incredible single take live performance: “We shot his one-take music video during the solar eclipse in Bandera, TX, on April 8, 2024. The live performance was meticulously timed to capture the transition from day to night and back to day, all within the 4 minutes of totality. Our wonderful director Jona Haber came up with this brilliant concept. To time the full performance to the eclipse, involved some seriously precise calculations. Perhaps the largest challenge was figuring out a way to balance our exposure and the lighting for a frame that we wouldn't see until 1 minute into the take, with no ability to adjust or do another take. Jonah spent weeks of studying exposure graphs during past eclipses to help me predict exactly how greatly our exposure was going to shift during totality, which then dictated which settings we wanted to maintain for both day and night, as well as how far we needed to set our lamps to maintain the right visual balance. I opted for the ALEXA 35 due to its extended sensitivity mode, which allowed me to enhance the natural ambient light during totality.
