Hypixel is one of the most popular Minecraft servers.[3] Hypixel consists of at least 35 different minigames.[2]
History
Hypixel started as a YouTube channel run by Collins-Laflamme in June 2012. He uploaded videos about custom minigame maps which people could download.[4]Vorlage:Primary source inline
The Hypixel server was founded on April 14, 2013, by Collins-Laflamme and Touchette.[2][5][6]
On December 21, 2016, Hypixel Network reached 10 million players in total.[7]
On January 5, 2017, Hypixel added the "Prototype Lobby", where players can vote on minigames that are being trialled. If a minigame isn't highly voted, it is deleted.Vorlage:Cn
On March 21, 2017, Hypixel broke the record for "most players on a Minecraft server simultaneously", with 61,012 players online.[8] On May 2, Collins-Laflamme announced that a separate server for the Chinese edition of Minecraft.
On December 13, 2018, Hypixel Network reached 14 million unique players in total.[9]
Hypixel Studios
On December 9, 2018, Hypixel announced a new stand-alone game in development called Hytale,[3][10][11] with support from Riot Games and other developers including Dennis Fong, Rob Pardo and Peter Levine.[9]
Security
Hypixel has had its servers frequently DDoSed by hackers. A notable attack was the on-and-off DDoS attack in late September 2016. The owners of an unknown server were using Mirai, a DDos malware, to attack Hypixel's servers. The purpose of the attack was to primarily get Hypixel's users to change to another Minecraft server.[12]
Around April 2018, it started to use Cloudflare Spectrum as a DDoS protection.[13] Hypixel has developed a bot named Watchdog, which detects if a player is hacking.[14]Vorlage:Not in citation given
