Materials I purchased from Lowe’s (wood shiplap wall planks) and paint is “Tricorn Black” by Sherwin Williams in Flat. Some important steps before you start: 1. Plan your design: Determine the size, shape, and style of your fireplace. 2. Choose your materials: Select the type of wood you want to use for your shiplap, as well as any other necessary materials such as nails, adhesives, or paint. 3. Prep the wall: Remove any existing trim or mantel, and ensure the wall is clean and smooth. Measure and mark the location of the fireplace and mantle. 4. Plan the frame - decide how deep you want your fireplace and mark out where the studs are so you can Install the frame directly onto the wall studs using wood screws. 5. When using combustible materials around a fireplace, you will want to research your local codes. Typically, any combustible material (e.g., wood mantel or similar trim) must be at least six inches from the firebox opening.
