Broken objects photography

I have spent almost the last decade traveling around Europe photographing some of its most interesting and visually impressive abandoned locations. From rusting industrial remnants in Belgium, abandoned farmhouses in Iceland to crumbling villas and hospitals in northern Italy, they have all stunned me at the sheer beauty of these places left to rot.

Exploring second-hand stores and estate sales, I collect mundane objects that have been left behind. I occasionally find a cracked teapot or plate that someone carefully mended. The piece may seem ordinary, but it had a special meaning to the owner. For this series, I try my hand at repairing fragile domestic objects. My methods are improvisational. I cringed yesterday when I saw so many people abusing their designer sunglasses. Women fished unprotected Alexander Wang frames out of the bottoms of their purses, and because of the entropy of handbags, these beautiful frames were mixed in with uncapped eyeliner pens and sharp house keys.
