Alex Fasulo: Ecopreneur on Instagram: "All I know so far is what my experience has been in this grant program! This is not the last grant program I’ll be exploring as someone with a brand new farm either. In January, the NRCS will give me an official cost breakdown of what my goal with the property is going to be. In March, I’ll know if I win any EQIP funds. Even if I don’t win any funds, having this kind of plan drafted by soil, tree, and pollinator specialists normally costs a lot of money! And it’s free! I have a feeling a lot of amazing things are coming for my land in 2025 thanks to these kinds of programs. And you can bet I will be covering it all here + in my newsletter!"

The return water runs through 400 feet of radiant tubing we installed ourselves, keeping the greenhouse warm enough to grow cold-weather crops year-round. You might wonder why we didn’t build an in-ground greenhouse for thermal energy. The reason? Our rocky terrain makes digging deep nearly impossible! This setup allows us to make the most of our existing resources while extending our growing season. It’s a great example of how creativity and problem-solving can overcome challenges on the homestead! All the materials we used to build the greenhouse were up-cycled! The only thing we had professionally done was the pouring of the concrete floors. • • • • • #greenhouse #diygreenhouse #homesteading #homestead #diy #plants #growyourownfood #grow #winter | Kristin & Hank | Homesteading in PA

Katie Krejci, RD | The Homesteading RD on Instagram: "🌱Welcome to the wonderful world of FODDER. Fodder is a nutrient-dense, inexpensive food source for livestock throughout the winter months. 1 pound of grain creates 4 pounds of fodder! Pigs, cows, goats, chickens, rabbits… they all love it! I’ll even catch the kitties chewing on some. Fodder is super simple to grow and you don’t need much space! I grow mine in a bathroom because it can handle the moisture well 👍🏼. I’ve done it in a laundry room and kitchen, too! Fodder is created through the act of soaking & sprouting grain and then letting it mature a few more days until it has grown fresh greens on top. Depending on your type of livestock, you may want to let it go a little longer or shorter. Chickens at at risk of crop impac

Alex Fasulo: Ecopreneur on Instagram: "There is an entire federal department in place to help YOU farm, homestead, grow food, and move to rural areas. I was in shock at how much free help I received from them last week. Maps, brochures, and even pamphlets of cheap educational classes (I’ve since enrolled in a Cornell small farms course thanks to them) were given to me. We spent 3 hours together! We chatted, they answered every question I had, they taught me so much, AND they walked my land. They also showed me the exact grant that makes sense for me. I probably would’ve never found it otherwise! Listen, I am not a fan of big government either. I used to work for the government - trust me - I get it. But in this case, there is free money allocated in our country’s budget that HAS to

Katie Krejci, RD | The Homesteading RD on Instagram: "❄️Keep your flock safe this winter with these steps! Winters can get pretty brutal here in Minnesota, but with a few essential winterizing steps, chickens can thrive even in the harshest conditions! Here’s what I recommend for winterizing your coop: ❄️Add insulation (we’re using 1.5” styrofoam board covered with 1/8” panel board) ❄️Cover large windows with polycarbonate (it creates a wonderful greenhouse effect!) ❄️Add ventilation holes (placed as high as possible to let moisture escape) ❄️Keep the waterers OUTSIDE the coop (moisture = frostbite) ❄️Add a @chickcozy_ Smart Coop Heater (for when it hits -20F! I don’t recommend routinely heating the coop.) There are a lot of radiant heaters on the market and I chose Chickcozy because: ?
Dagny Kream on Instagram: "AD wondering if you should keep bees? Let me know if you want my guide! 🐝 The worst part of beekeeping is the struggle of harvesting honey - a task that keeps a lot of people with physical limitations from keeping bees. With the @flowhive I just turned a key and honey came out, without the bees even knowing it was happening - and having experienced both a traditional harvest and this, the difference is night and day. Thank you Flowhive for gifting this beautiful hive and everything I need to keep bees! #flowhive #beekeeping #pollinatorgarden #gardening #pollinators #nativebees #beekeepers #honeybees🐝 #beehives #beesarecool #worldbeeday #beeday #honeybees #bees #savethebees"

The ability to plug into the house has been such a luxury. I cycle the generator on and off to conserve gas. No need to pull out appliances to plug in extension cords. This is a must-have if your budget is tight and can’t do the fixed @generac generator. You can roll out the portable Genny and get going 👍. I never thought we’d be running off this thing as long as we have but so grateful our damage was minimal and family is safe. My thoughts to those who were not so lucky. #BuilderBrigade #homebuildingtips #homebuilding #customHome #HomeBuildingChecklist | Builder Brigade | Builder Brigade · Original audio
