Winter Sketchbook Tour (January/February 2021) – Birds and more!
Winter is a good time to watch and sketch birds, so this sketchbook tour will be full of birds. There is little else going on here at the moment, we had quite a bit of snow that’s thawing now, and anything more than walks in the neighborhood is out of the the question. Painting a hummingbird

You can, of course, exchange birding with any other activity in nature, because all of the living things out there are worth observing and learning more about, and there are likely to be nerdy specialists for each topic and species. For me, it happens that birds are special. Read on why.
Drawing a raven in ink
Here’s another one of my bird drawings in ink, this time a raven. I showed how I explore this technique a few weeks ago with the ink drawing of a duck. With a bird that’s all black you have to decide where to put lighter and darker areas, so that you still can show some feather details, and make the bird look round, instead of just a solid black block.
