Castles, country homes and creepy noises
Within the 15th-century defences of the Pomeroy family castle in Devon, England, looms the dramatic ruined shell of its successor, the great Elizabethan mansion of the Seymours. Begun in c.1560 and ambitiously enlarged from c.1600, their mansion was intended to become the most spectacular house in Devon. Although never completed, and abandoned by 1700, it is said to be home to numerous spectres.

This type of barn is so rare in the United States that The National Trust for Historic Preservation is protecting most of them. It is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the orchard country of Biglerville, Pennsylvania, an area which is famous for apples and other tree fruits. The round barn, also called a “barrel barn,” was built in 1914 by the Noah Sheely family. The circumference of the barn is 282’, and the diameter is 87’.

St. James Palace, London. St James's Palace is one of London's oldest palaces and was built by Henry VIII between 1531 and 1536. Henry’s second wife, Anne Boleyn, stayed at the Palace on the night after her coronation. Two of Henry VIII's children died there: Henry FitzRoy, 1st Duke of Richmond and Somerset and Mary I (Mary's heart and bowels are buried in the palace's Chapel Royal). In 1558, Mary Tudor signed the treaty surrendering Calais at the Palace.
