I've printed this off on my laser jet printer. It's sat in the warm water for about 30 seconds. We're going to rub off the paper off the back and we are left with a beautiful photo on that packing tape and it's going to be translucent so whatever you put behind it will show through in the lighter parts of the photo. And this is what it looks like on top of the coffee stained paper.

#beginnersewing #sewingtips #sewingproject #sewing | #beginnersewing #sewingtips #sewingproject #sewing | By Tutorial sewing | Here's how to sew a rag quilt. What you'll need is six different prints of cotton fabric. And of each of these you will need one yard. You'll also need three yards of fleece or quilt batting for the middle. You'll also need three yards of the backing fabric and I used fleece for this. The first step you're going to do is cut 10 by 10 inch squares in all of your cotton fabrics and you're going to cut seven squares in each fabric. For the backing you're going to do the same thing the ten by ten inch squares but you're going to cut 42 of them and then for the middle pieces you're going to cut 42 of them but you're going to be cutting nine by nine inch squares. I accidentally cut my middle pieces 10 by 10 but don't do that. So what you're going to be doing is you're going to take a backing piece. You're going to lay it right side down and then you're going to put a fleece piece in the middle. And then on top of that you're going to do a cotton piece wrong sides down on top of that. So you're going to sandwich it. And then you're going to sew straight lines from corner to corner and make an X in the fabric. So you're going to be sandwich all of your pieces like this until you have no more squares left and I just wanted to give a little tip that when you're placing your fabric make sure that they're all facing the correct way that you want them to be. Like for me I wanted my backing pieces to have the lines facing vertically instead of horizontally. Just make sure that if you have a pattern where the orientation matters just make sure that when you're laying them down that they're facing the right way. So I'm just using a hair marker here to mark my lines and you're basically just going to mark an X in all of these little sandwiched pieces and then you're going to sew straight lines across them. And you're going to do this for all of the 42 squares that we just sandwiched together. So, once that's done, this is what they will all look like. I have them all organized in what pattern they are in their own little stacks here and next step that we're doing is the fun part where we get to decide how you want to organize all of your quilt pieces together and what you want the actual quilt to look like. You can definitely take your time kind of messing around with this in order to figure out what you like. Once you decide what you want your quilt to look like, you're going to stack them in order of each row exactly how they are placed on the floor and what I like to do once I stack a row together I like to put a sticky note on top of it that says like this is the first row, second row, third and then you'll sew them together in that order so that way it doesn't get mixed up. You're going to want to do for this part when you're attaching pieces together. You're going to have the backside and you're going to take take a new piece and have the backsides facing and then you'll stitch all the way down with a half inch seam allowance. You're done. It will look like this. And I've been trimming these little fleece pieces right here because mine are extra long. I did them 10 inches by 10 inches but I think next time I make one of these quilts I'll probably make the fleece pieces maybe eight or nine inches so they're a little bit smaller and they won't stick out. I also just wanted to say that when you're sewing these together make sure that if you have some like pattern like this where it's striped. You want to make sure that the stripes are going the same way instead of one being like this and one like this. So you want to make sure to check every square that you're sewing together that the pattern is facing the same way. Once you finish sewing all of your rows together you're going to go to your ironing board and press open all of your seams. The next thing that going to do is after you've ironed open all of these seams is you're going to place your rows wrong sides together and then you're going to sew with a half inch of seam allowance all the way down this row and just do that for all of your rows but just make sure that when you sew over these seams that you leave them open like this. Make sure that they're open on this top side and on the backside. Once you've sewn together all seven of your rows, you're going to iron open all of your seams that you just sewed and now you're going to sew a straight stitch around your entire quilt on the outside. Add a half inch of seam allowance. And once again when you're sewing over these seams that we just pressed make sure that they're laying flat when you sew over them. Once you've sewn around the entire quilt with a half inch of seamalones this is what it should look like. That's what my stitches look like on the outside. The next step is we're going to be snipping all of those seams that we just sewed and I'm using these Fiskers spring loaded scissors. I got them on Amazon and I'll link them in my storefront. My number one tip for you here is to just be very vigilant when you're cutting these because you really don't want to cut through those stitches that you just made obviously. So just be careful. And what I'm doing cutting mine about a/ 4 inch apart. It's not going to be perfect but that's okay. So, once you have finished snipping everything, this is what your quilt will look like and the very last step is to just throw it in the washer and I recommend washing it with like a couple of old towels or something because there is so much thread and fuzz that it's going to be on this blanket. So, I'm just throwing mine in on a quick wash. I'm doing a little bit of detergent but not a ton and then, I have in just two old towels with it and then, you're going to throw those towels in the dryer it as well so that it will catch all of that lint and fuzz and threads and all of that stuff and I would also recommend changing your lint filter thingy out before you put them in the dryer and after as well. Once I pull my blanket out of the dryer, I'm just using my vacuum and kind of vacuuming up any loose threads or fuzz that there is still on the blanket and after that, it's completely done. So, I hope you liked this tutorial. This is my very first rag quilt and learned a lot from it but I had a lot of fun and I really love how it turned out. I think it's so cute.
