Wikimania 2024 Day 3: Spotlight on Product & Technology

Translate this post

Technology has set the theme for Wikimania Katowice. Over 200 attendees registered for the Hackathon – they wrote patches, quashed bugs, built tools and roamed the depths of Phabricator. Wikimedians joined dozens of sessions about technology–ranging from Toolforge improvements to content translation to templates and community configuration–and hosted many meetups on technology topics.

Some session highlights from the day:

During lunch, a number of Product & Technology Initiative Areas answered volunteer questions about the latest developments in Wikimedia infrastructure and technology strategy: language support, the Community Wishlist, dark mode, and others. Later in the day, Wikimedians viewed and discussed dozens of posters which introduced readers to different projects happening across the movement, ranging from Wiki Loves editing events to new technical tools. (all posters available on Commons!)

With three of four days in, we’re looking forward to tomorrow’s programming and closing ceremony, and hope you can join us!
