🩸 TYPES OF BLOOD PRODUCTS
🔴 Whole Blood: → Blood with all its original components: RBC, WBC, PLT, plasma, etc. → Not as frequently used, more common in trauma and emergencies) 🟢 PRBC (Packed Red Blood Cells): → RBC separated from whole blood, higher concentration of RBC → Indications: Symptomatic anemia, active GI bleed, Hgb <7 → Contains about 300 mL blood, about 50 mL plasma → Leuko-reduced: Decreased WBC for high-risk immunocompromised patients 🟡 Platelets: → PLT separated from whole blood → Indications: Thrombocytopenia (low PLT count) to prevent/stop bleeding
