This is the great oceanic manta ray! They can have a “wingspan” up to 30 feet wide, and weigh up to 3600 pounds! Unfortunately, as of December 2023 they’re the first species of manta ray to be listed as endangered. They eat mostly phytoplankton, krill, and other zooplankton, pictured here. They have one of the largest brains, and the largest brain to mass ratio of any fish! They also are one of the few animals that pass the mirror test, suggesting self awareness.
