This whole process of learning difficult theory at the same time as the basics all while being someone completely unacquainted with music has been super helpful for understanding my protagonist better.

I really feel like Riley Taylor, unprepared to be dropped into a school of magic and music where he has to scramble to learn everything and catch up to everyone else.
