We’ve been looking for a way to customize the island and after a bit of research, we chose to install picture frame moulding. This was a super quick, inexpensive, easy weekend project, that provides a lot of character to an otherwise basic kitchen island. In other words, you will get a lot of bang for you buck.

Taking what you can get is how I felt when settling for the kitchen island makeover. Adding board and batten and painting it white seemed a decent compromise.

After picture of island update: addition of trim molding to form frames, addition of baseboard at bottom to close in, and new countertops....."frame" molding affect can be achieved by buying pre-made picture frames, but my husband bought construction trim molding and made his own then everything just painted. Way more cost efficient, and you can decide size/shape, etc.
