Emily Chen on Instagram: "SAVE THIS FOR YOUR NEXT GREY BLENDING CONSULTATION. There are SO many options when it comes to grey solutions - not just N + 20vol. As many of you know by now, one of my favorites is using a deposit-only Demi to grey-blend as an alternative to permanent color when possible. This offers a more dimensional result, zero underlying warmth (never fades “brassy”), and an ultra soft grow out for my low-maintenance queens. When I do this, I like to formulate about one shade lighter than the natural base to create a “highlighted” effect, and add warmth since there is NO underlying warmth in the grey we’re applying it over. For my client here, we used Goldwell Colorance 2% (7vol) 60ml developer, 30ml 6N, 30ml 7G Have you used deposit-only demi’s for grey blending? #

46K views · 1.9K reactions | My client wanted to transition from having a harsh permanent color demarcation line to having a softer growout with a translucent demi base. It’s easy to go from demi to permanent, but going the other way around takes a little more work. We used a level 5 deposit-only demi for her base. The translucency allows her greys to pop through, but now her greys look more like level 6/7 “highlights” against her natural level 4/5 base. We then had to tackle her old permanent color demarcation line. We packed in fine babylights to do just that. Lastly, since her hair was a solid dark color to begin with, I knew that if I had only done a demi base + babylights, the final look might look a bit dated and “stripey” so I added teasylights to brighten up her mids & ends, giving her final look a more modern feel. The base + teasies were processed together, then we shampooed, treated w @k18hair, blowdried, and did her packed in babylights. We finished with a toner, trim & blowout. Let me know if you want to see the full tutorial! Happy thanksgiving y’all ❤️🦃 #greyblending #greytransition #saloneducation #emchenhair | Emily Chen
