267K views · 24K reactions | Braided Scrappy Easter Egg Hot Pad 🌷🐥 🥚, yes ma’am! Instructions FREE here ⬇️. If you’d like to grab the templates for the pattern (egg shape, flower and flower center) go to my link tree and follow to my website for only $1.99!! Here’s what I did: - grab some springy cotton fabric scraps and cut in various lengths of 2” wide. Also cut one 2” x 2” square for your starting point. - cut a coordinating backing piece of fabric, along with a piece of insulbright batting at 10” x 10”. - cut a coordinating strip of cotton fabric on the bias (cut on the diagonal for stretch to go around the corners nicely) at 1 1/2” wide and approximately 25” in length. - cut out an egg shape or purchase the templates from my website, and trace with a heat erase Frixion pen, onto the insulbright so you have an idea for fabric placement. - make sure backing fabric is facing out, with insulbright on top. Center the 2” square along the bottom trace line. From there quilt as you go, building with the 2” fabric strips. - press when enough strips have been added to cover all the trace lines. Quilt on top a bit more if desired. - retrace the egg shape onto the finished front fabric, making sure the starter 2” square is now at the top. Cut out egg shape on the trace line. - using Heat n Bond lite or ultra, trace out the flower and flower center. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for bonding and iron to cotton fabrics. Cut out shapes, peel off backing, add to the lower right hand corner of the egg and iron in place. - I like to use a blanket or applique stitch to go around the edges of the applique shapes. - attach the binding to the back of the egg, folding over strip at the start and secure in place with wonderclips. Sew into place with 1/4” seam. - flip binding over to the front, fold binding under to tuck raw edges and clip in place. Use a blanket or straight stitch to sew binding down. - if using my templates, the finish is 7” x 8 1/2”. Make sure to save this reel to have instructions handy. A perfect scrapbuster if you have spring fabric laying around! Tag me if you try it!! 🐥🩷🥚🌷 #simplyeilene #hotpad #appluque #easteregg #quiltasyougo #sewingtutorial #lovetosew | Eilene Johnson | Giulio Cercato · Be Creative
1.6M views · 87K reactions | Raise your hand if you think the weather app on your phone is a big fat liar 🙋🏼‍♀️. My location says it’s sunny….with sun allll day! We are socked in with inversion again. No sun 😔 So, instead we will think about summer and strawberries! I love love love sewing with pink and red and throw in some strawberries and some good music and you have a dance party…..or you can just sew a scrappy casserole hot pad. Here’s what I did: - grab some scraps. If you’ve been here a minute, you know I’m a scrappy sewer. If I can get a 2” scrap from something, I save it. I cut these scraps at 2” wide and various lengths. Tip: sew contrasting strips next to each other using lighter and darker fabrics. - have a cute piece of fabric, but only a scrap? Try fussy cutting. That’s when you intentionally use a part of the fabric you like and make it a square. I centered strawberries in a 2 1/2” square. I love to use a 2 1/2” clear acrylic template. I have a link in my bio for my favorite Amazon sewing tools. - cut a piece of insulbright batting at about 12” x 16”. - I used the quilt as you go method and placed my fussy cut square in the center on the diagonal for a fun look. - start sewing strips around the center square in a log cabin fashion, building as you go until you’ve filled the whole piece of insulbright. I also like using a pressing tool to smooth my seams. It works like a charm and is also listed in my favorite sewing tools on my Amazon storefront. - trim up the sides and grab a piece of coordinating fabric for your backing. - bind with a stripey fabric! I’m a huge fan of striped binding. I cut my strips at 2 1/4” wide. I also have a highlight bubble for binding if you’re looking for an easy way to bind. There you have it. Scrapbusting and strawberries! Happy stitching friends!! 🍓 🍓🍓 . #simplyeilene #scrappysewing #scrappy #hotpad #strawberry🍓 #cottonfabric #quiltasyougo #qayg #sewingtutorial #sewinglove | Eilene Johnson | Jon Mero & LÒNIS · Feels This Good
