Abstract
In recent years, Japan’s declining birthrate and aging population have increased the need for new urban planning through sustainable compact city policies, and have also increased the importance of women in the workforce. Based on the above background, this study focuses on the choice of residence among working women. We simulate land use patterns in a virtual city, assuming that women choose a place to live according to the factors that are important to them, such as proximity to a train station and a nursery school or school-age childcare. These factors are included based on the results of a questionnaire survey on the items that women consider important for choosing a place to live. We analyzed the location of the houses in the city when the simulation converged. Our results showed that the location of the houses varies depending on the household.
