Deposition of Molybdenum and Uranium along the Major Ocean Ridge Systems

Abstract

ANOMALOUSLY high concentrations of uranium and molybdenum along with other transition metals have been found in the surface sediments on the world-wide system of rises1–5. Bostrom et al.1,2 ascribe the high transition metal content of the East Pacific Rise sediments in particular to volcanic activity. We suggest here an alternative hypothesis, at least for uranium and molybdenum and possibly for some of the other elements.
