I feel like I would have been diagnosed with OCD a lot earlier if the vast majority of screening questions (for mental illnesses in general) weren't based on the person's perception of their own behavior, in isolation. and what i mean by that is asking someone with OCD "do you wash your hands excessively?" is not a good question.

a person with OCD believes they are washing their hands the correct number of times. it's not excessive. we believe we're exhibiting best practices and helping to keep everything clean.

better questions might be, "does it seem like you wash your hands a lot more than your friends or family?" "do you get dry patches or cuts on your hands from washing your hands?" "do you find it deeply distressing, more so than how you've seen other people react, when you get something on your hands that you can't clean off right away?"

being asked "are you overly preoccupied with bugs, symmetry, and contamination?" also got "no" responses from me years ago in my life. what they didn't ask for, and didn't know, was what *exactly* I was doing in my day to day life that genuinely ate up my time and mental space to a concerning degree, but I *didn't know* that other people don't do this.

"do you spend a lot of time cleaning?" -> no, it's not a lot. it's a good amount. why?

"do you become frustrated because it seems like no one else meets your organizational and cleanliness standards - do you often 'take over' for other people because they can't do it right - do new friends seem surprised by how strict you can be about your living space?" -> oh. yeah. yeah I get it now.

if the screening questions on the mental illness test sound at all like "are you already aware you're mentally ill?" then, shocker, it's not going to work all that well!

Absolutely amazing how AO3 is a part of the internet that doesn't sneak in any ads and doesn't have an algorithm and doesn't watch you or record how much time you spend looking at each fic or whatever. It's just right there to use for free. Legend

The internet was like this. This was the normal.

this is because it's a non-profit! Remember this next time you bitch about ao3 asking for donations.

Re: littlecofiegirl's comment — actually, the internet was never like this.

"YouTube used to be free." Youtube used to be funded by venture capitalists. It operated at a loss for many years, until it grew a dedicated enough customer base to start stage 2 of the enshittification process.

It's the same business model as Amazon or Uber. Venture capitalists pour money into a business, allowing it to operate at a loss and undersell its competition until all the competition dies out and it becomes a monopoly. Once that happens, the business can hike up prices as high as it wants, secure in the knowledge that customers have nowhere else to go.

These websites were never free. They were always accruing debt, with the intention of eventually coercing the public into paying off that debt a hundredfold.

AO3 is not a relic of the old internet. It is a new kind of website created specifically in reaction to the enshittification of the corporate internet, by a community of people who believed that creative works deserved to flourish on the internet, on a platform that was not subject to the whims of corporate oversight, so much so that they were willing to donate money and labor to create such a platform.

If you want to compare AO3 to something, compare it to a website like Bluesky, which was created in reaction to the enshittification of Twitter X.

Do not glorify "the good old days" that never existed. You don't make the internet or the world better by going back to the way things were. You do it by building something new.

I've been pulled back into rainworld stuff because of the new DLC and it re-kindled my love for the Ancients/Benefactors, I love them and I love their lost culture and architecture and specially their funky drippy fashion, so i decided to brainstorm some masks and what my mind imagines is under the masks.

drawings i have for a while on my pc.

Older Showrunner and Valerie, both would refuse to not age gracefully and use science and time shenaningans to do so, so they'd be 50 years old and still barely change.

Bonus is a miserable ass Morty i have that had quite the opposite luck in life who Showrunner eventually " befriends' more or less as a sort of entertainment to himself. ))

Mickey 17 + baby creepers

I reblogged this without any commentary earlier but all my life I have seen creature artists in sci-fi films battle tooth and nail against the Hollywood marketing definition of what a friendly or cute alien species is allowed to look like and these designs absolutely fly in the face of those standards - even the Prawns in District 9 were pushed more humanoid from their earliest designs, and had to be given big puppy dog eyes to get final approval! But these are undeniably cute by actual mainstream standards, at least right now in a culture that has at last embraced tardigrades, cephalopods and various crustaceans as charming. The way you can see all the animals the animators studied - not just relevant invertebrates but pigs, elephants and baby armadillos - is also impressive. They truly put loving, careful thought into forms of cuteness that are not based on kittens or puppies or babies. Finally.

Rick & Morty Season 8 episode titles!

The 8th episode looks like it takes place back in the Cronenberg universe

Episode 10 also does have any sci Fi stuff...

I think they've mentioned how every season will have two story driven episodes. So I wonder if episode 10 or the episode with the citadel will be one. Bc I have no doubt that "no mort land" will be one
