This special issue commemorates the 20th anniversary of Judith Butler’s groundbreaking work of moral philosophy, Giving an Account of Oneself. Scholars in queer, trans, feminist, and critical race studies assess the untapped potential of Butler’s book for contemporary social theory. Each essay extends Butler’s theories of relationality into a new scene of address, from the queer studies classroom to the gallery wall, from Foucault’s interviews to White Lotus, and from the psychoanalyst’s couch to the global networks of trans activism.
