Yule, mundanely known as the Winter Solstice, celebrates the death and rebirth of the Sun. The Cauldron features the following articles on Yule.
Here's an offsite treasure for Pagans young and old:
- The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus
L. Frank Baum, of Wizard of Oz fame, wrote a very Pagan friendly book about Santa Claus early in this century. This book, which has Santa Claus raised by fairies and doing good because he loves humankind (especially children), is an excellent alternative to the usual Santa Claus as a Christian Saint stories. It's available from Project Gutenberg as a text file to read online or zipped for downloading.
Many people believe that many Christmas traditions are Pagan in origin. There's some truth to this, but even those traditions that clear have Pagan origins have become throughly Christianized over the years. In modern times, many have also become throughly secularized. However, for those interested, here are some links on the origins of Christmas traditions.
Yule discussions are always welcome on our message board.
