Banking on Kids

Anhalt is the president of Banking On Kids,[5], a company that helps K-8 students become fiscally prudent by opening student-run-banks in their schools.[6][7][8][9] Founded in 1995, Anhalt's initiatives represented an example of smaller banks becoming involved in education: In 1999, the organization started programs in 75 schools with the help of 15 banks in the Milwaukee area. The program sets many goals for students, such as opening their own savings account.[10][11] Anhalt believes the program is beneficial because it helps students set financial habits early on.[3][12][13] Anhalt has also stated that another goal of the organization is to reduce the use of check-cashing services, which he called "legalized loan sharking." Such services take a percentage cut from the value of the check, and to remedy this, more emphasis needs to be placed on individuals saving money.[14]

Event promotion and coordinating

Under his organization, Just Like Downtown, Anhalt marketed, promoted, and coordinated several public events in the Milwaukee area. For instance, he promoted several "best of" contests in local foods, such as custard, fish fry, and pizza. He also organized and promoted the idea for the Park-it Market at County Stadium in 1982, which was a flea market described as "Milwaukee's biggest rummage sale ever." The event attracted 600 sellers and an estimated 8000 attendees.[15] Anhalt was noted for his atypical promotional strategy, such as using WBCS radio as a method to advertise the event.[16]

He is also responsible for organizing events such as a rubber duck race,[17][18] and is credited for marketing an idea that involved selling sod from the County Stadium following the 1982 World Series.[19]

He staged a scavenger hunt through the Milwaukee Public Museum, with the winner uncovering clues to cars and computers.[Now Museum-Now You Don't][20][21][22] He oversaw the [Wisconsin Farm Fund] enabling local farmers to raise monies during fallow harvests, worked with U.S Open winner Andy North to create the [Pro Golf Shoot Out], where local amateur golfers could try each week to best a visiting PGA golfer, who posted a score on local county golf courses.[23] He staged a video game expo,[24] created a giant flea market [Park-it Market] with over 10,000 visitors and 600 vendors,[25][26] and auctioned off 52 bachelors to 1,000 attentive ladies at the [Bachelor Auction] raising over $50,000 for Big Brothers-Big Sisters.[27]

He previously served as the development manager for the Milwaukee Department of Parks, Recreation, and Culture[17] ,[28] Marketing Director for the King Solomon Mines in Eilat, Israel,[29] Education Consultant for the Greater Milwaukee Education Trust [defunct],[30] and Director of Special Events for the advertising firm Hastings & Doyle [defunct].[31]
