The Secret Circle is an American supernatural television series. The series is based on a book series of the same name by L.J. Smith, and was developed for television by Andrew Miller. The Secret Circle premiered on The CW on September 15, 2011.

After her mother Amelia is killed in a fire, Cassie Blake moves in with her grandmother Jane in Chance Harbor, Washington, the town where her mother lived years before. Cassie quickly starts to learn from her new classmates that there things about her past that she never knew about--like the fact that she and her new friends are all witches, and they want Cassie to join them in creating a new generation of the Secret Circle. As Cassie starts to unlock her new powers, she uncovers a dark side to her abilities and soon comes to realize that with her new found destiny comes a level of danger and power.

Cassie is coping with the death of her mother then finding out she is a witch and part of a coven that she really doesn't want to have anything to do with. She tries to be a normal girl but her powers do not allow it. They react very suddenly. Faye is still power tripping, and Diana wants them to bind their power together. Adam is having a hard time with his feelings for Cassie. Dawn Chamberlain has an unexpected surprise in the form of her father in law.

Cassie is asked to the school dance by a cute jock named Luke. She accepts after watching Adam spend time with Diana. Meanwhile, Melissa sees the dance as an opportunity to become closer with Nick. Faye has no plans to go to the dance, and stays focused on finding a way to control her powers. Dawn finds out that someone from their past is in town asking questions about the Circle.

Cassie starts looking for Heather Barnes and when she finally locates Heather's brother, Wade, Cassie and Adam go to his house and try and get answers. They soon find out that Heather has not moved in the sixteen years since the fire. Cassie then tells Adam about finding her own family's Book of Shadows but when Diana forbids Adam to help Cassie, Faye and Cassie try the reversal spell and it ends up going terribly wrong, as Diana predicted. Diana and Adam figure out that the sigil on Heather's wrist has something to do with demons and Dark Magic. Meanwhile, Heather breaks into Cassie's house looking for help and reveals that the sigil and spell Amelia put on Heather binds the demon inside her to stop it from hurting anyone. The demon in Heather takes over and she attacks Cassie and Faye but when the rest of the Circle arrive to help, Heather escapes and gets hit by a car when she stops in the middle of the road after being confronted by her brother. As the paramedics take the body away, the demon 'snake' is shown to be slithering into Nick's jacket - and Melissa's ear later that night while she's sleeping.

Melissa, now possessed by the demon 'snake', recruits the unsuspecting members of the Circle to help her find her family's Book of Shadows. What they find, however, is a suitcase filled with more demons. Cassie calls on her grandmother for help, and they are successful in drawing out the demon from Melissa, but it enters Nick instead. The demon (Abbadon) approaches Dawn, seeking to use her body instead, but she is rescued by Charles. Dawn and Charles decide to drown Nick in order to kill Abbadon, and they succeed, but end up killing Nick as well. When his body is found, the Circle members assume he did it to himself, while elsewhere, Charles and Dawn convince themselves that they did the right thing.

The circle is dealing with Nick's death, and suddenly realizing that magic isn't all just fun and games. Cassie confides in Jane, her grandmother, who thinks the circle should be kept broken. Suspicions arise when a mysterious young man turns up at Nick's house, especially when a few people recognize him as the town's old troublemaker. Diana confronts Adam about his feelings for Cassie, and presents him with a tough decision. . After Diana confronts Adam about his feelings for Cassie she also breaks up with him. Deciding the Circle needs to have a little fun, Faye convinces Cassie to throw a big Halloween party. Intent on wooing Jake back, Faye goes all out on her Halloween costume. After a fight with Diana, Adam turns to Cassie for advice. Meanwhile, some dangerous, uninvited guests set their sights on the Circle.
