Muhammad al-Tijani al-Samawi (),(; born 2 February 1943) is a Tunisian Shia scholar, academic, and theologian. He converted from Sunni Islam to Twelver Shi'a.

Personal life
Al-Tijani was born in a Tunisian Sunni Muslim family of the Maliki school. Previously, his family added “al-Tijani” to their name after adopting the Tijani sufi order of Ahmad al-Tijani. He was eighteen years of age when the Les Scouts Tunisiens agreed to send him as one of six Tunisian representatives to the first conference for Islamic and Arab scouts which took place in Mecca. He used the opportunity to perform the Hajj. He stayed twenty five days in Saudi Arabia, during which he met many prominent Salafi scholars, listened to their lectures and became heavily influenced by the Salafi movement.
Al-Tijani was born in Tunisian Muslim family. As a student, he made a pilgrimage to Mecca. While studying at the Saudi hawza, he was influenced by Saudi teachings, Islam - which holds, among many, that the Shi'ites aren't Muslims because they worship dead humans instead of Allah

Upon returning to Tunisia, Alal-Tijani wasstarted influencedactively bypromoting anand Iraqispreading ShiaSalafism during the religious classes and sermons that he studentgave, including in the Great Mosque of Kairouan. He then traveled to Egypt’s al-Azhar University. On the way back to Tunisia, al-Tijani met a Shi'i Iraqi lecturer from the University of Baghdad named Mun'im,. whoHe came to Cairo to submit his Ph.D. thesis at al-Azhar University and Mun'im invited him to Iraq. Al-SamawiTijani spent several weeks with Mun'im; visited Baghdad and Najaf, and met with several leading Twelver Shi'ai scholars., These included:including Ayatollahal-Qasim Abulal-Qassim Khoei (al-Khu'i), Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr (Grand Ayatollah to-be), and Husayn TabatabaeiTabataba'i, who taught him about ShiaShi'a Islam. After long debates with the Shi'i scholars, he became a Shi'a Muslim. After long debates with the Shia scholars, he became a shia muslim, following the Jafari Madhab.

Then I Was Guided
Then I Was Guided (Arabic Thumma Htadayt) is Al-Tijani's first book—in a series of books—which he wrote for a Sunni audience. In this series, he asks the Sunnis the same questions he wrestled with during his studies of Shi'a literature. The author finds the Shi'i argument for their account of history to be valid while citing evidence which he claimed proved the Sunni view cannot withstand scrutiny.

Ask Those Who Know
Ask Those Who Know is the second book in the series.

To Be with the Truthful
The name of the book, To Be with the Truthful, is derived from a Quranic verse: "O you who believe, fear Allah and be with the Truthful" (9). The work addresses the revelation of the Qur'anic verse, 5. Revealed during the Farewell Pilgrimage on Mount Arafat, it is regarded as authentic in Sahih Bukhari. The book questions why Muslims do not celebrate that day as their greatest festival. The book also discusses the events of Ghadir Khumm and the meeting at Saqifah

The Shi'a: The Real Followers of the Sunnah
The title of The Shi'a: The Real Followers of the Sunnah (or Shiah Hum Ahl Al-Sunnah) is more accurately translated as "The Shi'ah are the real Ahl al-Sunnah".
