Murarai (also spelt Muraroi) (Bengali: মুরারই) is a town with a police station, community development block and an assembly constituency in Rampurhat subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Geography
Murarai is located at 24°27′N 87°52′E / 24.45°N 87.87°E[1]. It has an average elevation of Template:M to ft.
Demographics
Murari has two community development blocks.
Murarai I
In the 2001 census, Murarai I community development block had a population of 154,282 out of which 79,193 were males and 75,089 were females.[2]
Murarai II
In the 2001 census, Murarai II community development block had a population of 177,730 out of which 90,522 were males and 87,208 were females.[2]
Administration
Murari I and II are intermediate panchayat (local self government) under Birbhum Zilla Parishad. Village panchayats under Murarai I and II intermediate panchayat are:.Chatra, Dumurgram, Gorsha, Mahurapur, Murarai, Palsa, Rajgram. Kushmore I and II, Mitrapur, Nandigram, Paikar I and II, and Rudranagar[3]
Politics
In the 2006 and 2001 assembly elections, Dr. Qamre Elahi of CPI (M) defeated Dr. Motahir Hossain of INC/ AITC. Dr. Motahir Hossain of INC defeated Moyazzem Hossain of CPI(M) in 1996, Durgadas Ghosh of CPI(M) in 1991 and 1987, Matiur Rahman of CPI(M) in 1982 and Bazle Ahammad of CPI(M) in 1977.[4]
Murarai assembly constituency is part of Birbhum (Lok Sabha constituency).[5]
