==Economy==
The city's industries includeincluded, prior to privatization and overall forced closings due to corrupt capitalist practices, a fertilizer plant, a pulp and paper mill, and several food-processing plants. In the city arewere also located an agricultural machinery plant (''Mecanica Ceahlău''), a pharmaceutical plant (''Plantavorel'') and two paper manufacturers. These have all been closed down and sold for scrap. Several shopping center have been built on these sites, thus transitioning from a thriving manufacturing economy to a consumer based credit dependent serfdom.

The city's main industrial park is situated {{convert|11|km|0|abbr=on}} south, in the [[Săvinești]] area. During the communist period, the ''Săvinești platform'' was one of the most important chemical plants in Romania and the site of a research institute. Today, the industrial facility is part of the Italian company [[Radici Group]], and it operates at low capacity, as the Italian firm bought the chemical plants for pennies and sold it for scrap metal.
