The Mighty Death Pop! is the 12th studio album by American hip hop group Insane Clown Posse. Scheduled to be released August 14, 2012, it will be the group's third album with producer Mike E. Clark since his return to Psychopathic Records, and the second album to focus on the Dark Carnival since the conclusion of the group's original "Joker's Cards" series. The titular character, The Mighty Death Pop!, is the second in a set of six new Joker's Cards.

Background and development

At their 2010 Hallowicked concert, Insane Clown Posse revealed the first face of The Mighty Death Pop character, and stated that the album would be the second in a new deck of Joker's Cards.[1] The following March, they announced that the album would have two faces.[2] In mid March of 2012, the second face was revealed to be that with the likeness of a bomb.

Recording process

Since the release of Bang! Pow! Boom, Joseph "Violent J" Bruce and Joseph "Shaggy 2 Dope" Ustler have accumulated various song topics and beats and plan to travel to producer Mike E. Clark's studio in northern Michigan to record the new album.[3] The band will focus on recording, breaking only for a few concerts in Australia and Europe.[3] Violent J has stated that he expects that the new album will take quite a bit of time to record, saying it's "just gonna take a lot of time. There's so much that needs to be recorded. It's definitely a job, a lot of work. But I'm excited, I'm not bitching."[3]

He has stated that the group will "take all the anger we feel and have saved up and stored inside from all the crazy dissing [of] ICP and the Juggalos [...] and we're gonna channel it all into the new album."[4][5] In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Bruce stated that both Utsler and himself will not smoke cannabis during the recording process of the album.[6] In keeping with the themes of the other joker's cards, the new album will teach the listeners something about themselves.[3]

Release

The Mighty Death Pop! is scheduled for an August 14, 2012 release.[7] Due to the success of Bang! Pow! Boom!, Bruce and Utsler suggested that The Mighty Death Pop! would sell better.[8] On April 20, 2012, Psychopathic Records released an infomercial for the album, announcing that it will be available in three separate editions, each with a variant color cover and prepackaged with a bonus album.[9]

The first variant edition, dubbed the Red Pop edition, contains an album of cover songs entitled Covered, Smothered & Chunked, which features appearances by Psychopathic artists Twiztid, Anybody Killa, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, Cold 187um and Boondox, as well as Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst and rapper Lil Wyte.[9] The second variant, the Black Pop edition, contains the album Freaky Tales, consisting of a single, album-length rap, inspired by Too Short's song of the same name.[9] The third variant, the White Pop edition, contains the remix album Mike E. Clark's Extra Pop Emporium, which features remixes, outtakes and leftover songs recorded during the Mighty Death Pop sessions; these tracks include appearances by Kottonmouth Kings, Three 6 Mafia, Color Me Badd, Geto Boys, Twiztid, Kreayshawn and Swollen Members.[9]
