A former [[England national under-19 football team|England U19]] and [[England national under-20 football team|U20]] international, he started his career with [[Leicester City F.C.|Leicester City]], helping them into the [[Premier League]] in [[2002–03 Leicester City F.C. season|2002–03]]. However he failed to hold down a regular first team place, and was loaned out to [[Brentford F.C.|Brentford]] and [[Blackpool F.C.|Blackpool]], before transferring to [[Barnsley F.C.|Barnsley]] in 2006.
