UKNova is a BitTorrent tracker specialising in UK-based television and radio programmes. UKNova has a strict policy of not allowing material which can be legally purchased (for example with a DVD release) to be shared via the site. The site was originally created to provide British ex-pats and fans of British Television living outside of the UK with one of the UK's most popular soap operas, EastEnders, although this quickly expanded to cover a much greater range of programming.

The site has a particularly close, tightly-knit user community. This is evidenced by their active forum pages, IRC chat rooms and their community radio station with all shows hosted by UKNova members. The radio station generally broadcasts 24/7 and is staffed by volunteers from within this unique online community.

History

  • UKNova originally began as a way of sharing episodes of the popular British soap opera EastEnders with fans of the programme living outside of the UK. Over time the site has grown and expanded with a membership of nearly 30,000 people worldwide.

Trivia

UKNova was mentioned in an article on BitTorrent and the leaking of episodes not yet broadcast (in this case the first episode of the new Doctor Who) in which a spokesperson stated they had taken it off UKNova because "it is not in the overall interests of this site to distribute a copy of such a long-awaited and high-profile show before it is aired".[1]
