Colonel '''William Willoughby Cole Verner''' (October 22, 1852 – January 25, 1922) was a [[United Kingdom|British]] soldier, writer and ornithologist and inventor of a type of compass. He was briefly a Professor of Topology at the [[Royal Military Academy Sandhurst]].
