English: Treasury Note as authorized by the Morrill Tariff Act of 1861. The inscription reads:

Issued in pursuance of an Act of Congress approved March 2d. 1861.

TWO YEARS AFTER DATE THE UNITED STATES Promise to pay to the order of Jas Brunaugh, A. A. C. S. FIFTY DOLLARS with interest at six percent Payable 1st Jan. and 1st July.

Washington, Aug the 9th 1861.

CONVERTIBLE INTO BONDS OF THE UNITED STATES.
