Afterburner thrust

edit

my comments concern the way jet engine afterburner applies it's thrust to the engine. Most explinations state that the afterburner heats the exhaust gasses and increases thrust by virture of the increased exhaust velocity. The exhaust velocity does increase but no mention is given to how or where the rapidly expanding gasses act on the engine to transfer the additional thrust to the engine and airframe. It's not enough to state (as many do) that the expanding gasses add thrust by merely increasing threir velocity. That is not inquestion, but the expanding gases must react with additional pressure against some engine part to impart this thrust. The convergent jet nozzle causes "backpressure" upstream in the compressor and combustion chambers where the lions share of thrust is generated.
