Merge from Courtney Murphy

edit

Please merge any relevant content from Courtney Murphy per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Courtney Murphy. (If there is nothing to merge, just leave it as a redirect.) Thanks. Quarl (talk) 2007-02-13 08:57Z

I've just added it. There's not that much info that's irrelevent anyway. RaNdOm26 13:35, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Angie-narayan.jpg

edit

Image:Angie-narayan.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The image Image:AustralianIdol.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Merger proposal

To not merge Hayley_Jensen into Australian_Idol_(season_2) on the grounds of no consensus for merge over more than 3 years. Klbrain (talk) 22:43, 22 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

I propose Hayley_Jensen be merged into Australian_Idol_(season_2). I think the ongoing notability of the subject post-Australian Idol is questionable as the artist has largely fallen out of the public eye. The content of this article can easily be incorporated into the biography section of the Australian Idol season 2 article as with other contestants from the same season, like Em Rusciano and Amali Ward.

I strongly disagree. After the Australian Idol series, Hayley released multiple singles and an album which had national success. Although boosted by her participation in Idol, this shouldn't be considered as part of the TV series. Hayley is currently part of Silver Cities - a dance/rock band from Sydney who recently released a new single and are currently working on releasing their debut album. Public attention is expected to pick up next year after the release of the album with publicity and a tour / shows to promote the album. Hayley_Jensen should remain a separate wikipage and will be updated soon with info on the new album.

Kris.severijns (talk) 07:22, 19 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

I respect that Hayley Jensen has worked continuously in the music industry since Australian Idol and has actively released recordings and toured, but if I'm reading her page right, none of her singles have charted higher than #63 on the Australian Charts. If her group are successful after the release of their new material then there will be a case to create articles for the band and/or Hayley, but at the moment I don't think a fourth runner up on a 9 year old series of Australian Idol meets the notability requirements of Wikipedia. There is no question that she is a talented person, right now she just doesn't have the numbers to make a compelling case for notability (in my opinion). I will also bring to your attention that this merger proposal has existed since July, and we are the only two who have commented on it.

Eliahna (talk) 13:00, 14 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Eliahna, I do appreciate your efforts to keep Wikipedia relevant and review content, but in this specific case I checked the notability requirements for musicians and the fact that both Hayley's album / single were in Australian's National charts (her single got in the top 20 of new Australian singles when it came out) and her participation and 4th place in the Idol TV show are 2 criteria she is meeting. Notability should not be temporary and in this case is not only in the context of just 1 single event, but 2 separate contributions from Hayley as an artist.

Kris.severijns (talk) 12:45, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kris. Merging Hayley's article into the main Australian Idol (season 2) article will bring it in line with other contestants from that same series. Some examples of contestants from that series who haven't got their own articles:

  • Courtney Murphy, third place winner. Since Idol he has toured Australia as part of the Grease Arena Spectacular, made appearances on television, and performed the national anthem at the cricket, as well as releasing a solo album and an album with the band he formed with his brothers.
  • Marty Worrall placed six and went on to release a single that was in the Independent Charts Top 10 for six weeks. Recorded an album with one half of the Savage Garden duo. Had a Top 10 album in Canada in 2006.
  • Em Rusciano hosted breakfast radio on Austereo in WA for four and a half years and has appeared on The Project and The Circle.

There's also at least one other former contestant who has an article that I would nominate for merger on notability grounds, but as this was my first foray into merger proposals, I thought I'd see how this went first :)

If I'm wrong, then maybe the situation is more that articles should be written on the performers I cited above. As it stands, it looks like Hayley Jensen (and Chanel Cole) are being treated as special cases despite not being obviously more influential in the public sphere since Idol than Murphy, Worrall and Rusciano.

Eliahna (talk) 10:41, 28 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Eliahna. I understand where you are coming from, but I don’t really agree that peers or similar cases not having articles should be a reason to merge or delete the article of an artist. Each case should be considered individually and verified against the prescribed notability requirements and not based on ranking or influence which I think is anyway hard to measure and often dependent on the target audience you are looking at.

I also think that articles probably should be / have been written on the performers you mention above as they - as is the case for Hayley - all have significant contributions outside - and not directly linked to - the Idol series. As Wiki is relying on the general public to contribute content, you will always find that articles are created for some and not for others in a similar situation.

Hayley is still very active in the Australian Music scene; she recently received an award with her band for their single “lights” at the Australian Independent Music Awards and their album release is coming up soon. Based on that and the reasons mentioned earlier, I don’t see there is a need to merge this article with the one on Australian Idol.
