Talk:Eliot A. Cohen

Reverted biography edit

edit

I reverted a biography edit that was unsourced. I also believe that the edit (names of various family members) is, frankly, irrelevant. If someone thinks this info is relevant, perhaps add that he is married with children? Certainly that he has a son in the army is important, but that is discussed later in the article.--ZebulanG 18:16, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Censoring Edits by "User:Eliotcohen"?

edit

I just reverted a series of edits by a new user called User:Eliotcohen who has only edited the Eliot A. Cohen page. That user removed significant amount of material without sufficient (at least in my opinion) explanation. Here are his edits that I reverted: [1]. --70.48.69.93 14:58, 7 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have a feeling the IP User:207.237.228.140 is the same user. I've requested that said IP user explain their edits on their talk page, but nothing has come of it. Until we get an explanation of some sort, I'm reverting their changes. Kel-nage 13:09, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fleshed out political statements

edit

He wanted war in iran too, so changed the header to statements on foreign policy, also added his political appointment (and advisory to bush admin/congress) and neutralized some of the wording. Also removed a little verbiage.

Added some more statements dating from 2001-2003 by Cohen. All on the same theme- why war in iraq is a great idea. This sheds light on why exactly Cohen faced criticism for his "father sends son to war" piece, his political appointment under Rice, and the criticism of his credentials as a military analyst- all covered under "Appointments controversy" subsection. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.16.126.111 (talk) 14:56, 19 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

CHagel: comments re SecDefense possible nomination

edit

My summary of an NPR report on CHagel's possible nomination, including ECohen's quote questioning whether Hagel could be "the heavy" or "happy" to use force, was deleted as "undue, editorializing". I've reverted the deletion and ask here for a better explanation of omitting this information from this article. The section is small, about half of it Cohen's quote. It sets the context, gives the quote, that's it. "Undue" would imply "too much weight" -- not so, I don't think. And who is editorializing, me or NPR? I hope other editors will look at the section if possible, whether in the article or here (the deletion), in considering the issue of inclusion.

Interestingly, of the phrase "the heavy" as used by Cohen I found no reference in Wiki or Wikt. Thus I've used the quote here also, accordingly.

Thanks. 00:48

ps Why would one consider the 4-5 line quote on Hagel "undue" after all the quotes here in a "Statements" section of the article? I'm puzzled even more by that. 00:54

Compromise solution seems to be well on way. Cheers. Swliv (talk) 01:50, 25 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Removed section with comment about Trump

edit

I removed the comment about Trump. Not because I am a fan of mr. Trump, quite the opposite. But. We try to write an encyclopedia, and this is far too fresh. Its almost all about Trump and little about Cohen. So any extension of this biography should be more about his merits, not some blog about the latest developments, for that we have newspapers and magazines. I take your point, as regards the long blockquote about Trump. But the point of adding the section at all was to note Cohen's opposition to Trump, which drew tons of attention. Still, as you say, perhaps too fresh. PRRfan (talk) 05:57, 3 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
