Hi. My name is Angela and I work for Roy Bahat. A couple in-depth profiles have been written on Roy recently in Business Insider and Fast Company that offer more information about what he's famous for (early AI investments and speaking on organized workforces). I'd like to share a proposed draft here that adds a few sentences from these new sources (proposed additions are in bold) to add to the end of the Career section. Firstly, given your relationship with Bahat, you have a conflict of interest that you must declare on your Talk page (see the instructions on how to do this by clicking on that link). I see now that you created the page and submitted it without declaring your conflict of interest, which is of concern.

Regarding your draft additions, I think they may be OK, however I am concerned at an overall promotional feeling to the page. It tends to read too much like a CV, which Wikipedia is not.

My suggestions would be:

1. Declare your COI.

2. Review the page in light of my comments and amend it accordingly. At that point consider adding reference to the 2 new articles but I think a trimmed down version of your draft is more likely to survive review.

3. Please feel free to ping me and I would be happy to have another look.

Question: Roy's advocacy for unions has been noted in a few press outlets, and is certainly unusual. But what makes Roy's early investment in "AI" particularly notable? I don't really see much outside of around maybe two sources on Google News...? ⸺(Random)staplers 21:55, 23 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Randomstaplers: The cited Business Insider article says: "Bahat along with his two partners James Cham and Karin Klein have made a name for themselves by being years ahead of the curve when it comes to AI." I thought it was fair to interpret "made a name for themselves" as saying this is not only notable, but what Bahat is known for.

There are other citations about his AI investments,[1] though many use different language like "machine intelligence"[2] or "future of work"[3] and they often refer to Bloomberg Beta in general, rather than Roy Bahat by name. The provided citation I think is the best one, because it comes out and says directly that early AI investments is what Roy is known for.

It's a small page with less than 10 citations, so there isn't a large volume of citations available for most of the sentences on the page, including his date of birth, degrees earned, job titles, etc. I didn't think multiple citations were necessary. I'm just explaining my thinking and answering your question though - not trying to be argumentative.

Not done: Declining the request "as-is." However, I think saying something like "he has invested early in AI companies such as A, B, and C" would be appropriate if the sources will support it. It appears that the investments with Bloomberg Beta were not his personal investments, but through that investing arm. For the labor information, I think the Fast Company reference clearly states he was involved with assisting organizing of a union with Starbucks (unless I am misreading the source) and can be stated as such. In 2013, Bloomberg Beta was created and Bahat was appointed head of the new entity. Bahat is a partner of Bloomberg Beta along with Karin Klein and James Cham.^[1] Bahat and his partners started investing in artificial intelligence companies in 2013 with their first AI investment in Newsle and focused on AI companies in 2014.^[3] Roy Bahat advised the organizers who created the first Starbucks union.^[4] Bahat started teaching an MBA course on leading a unionized workforce at University of California, Berkeley.^[2]
