The Farsi section of Israel Radio was a Persian-language radio station that was broadcast from Israel from 1958 to May 10, 2017.[1][2]
This radio started by broadcasting programs to Iran with the aim of strengthening the relations between Iran and Israel.[3] Amnon Netzer was the initiator and founder of the Farsi section of the Israel Radio which broadcast in Persian language. This radio had two to six million daily listeners in Iran.[4] The Farsi section of Radio Israel was one of the eleven languages that was broadcast from the international station of Radio Israel.[5] This radio operated under the supervision of the Israel Broadcasting Authority. With the dissolution of this organization by the approval of the Israeli parliament, the Farsi section of Israel Radio also ended its activity.[2][6]
After the Iranian revolution
edit- During the impeachment and dismissal of Ali Kordan in the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, he accused the Farsi section of Israel Radio and other Farsi-language radio stations of laying the groundwork against his "revolutionary record".[7]
- During the popular 2009 Iranian presidential election protests, Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, protested what he called the "interference of foreign governments in the events of Iran"[8] and accused "Zionist Radio and the BBC" of "Anxiety of the public mind" and have fueled riots.[9] Ali Khamenei's words about "Radio Zionists" are considered to be a reference to Menashe Amir's daily program on the Farsi section of Israel Radio and the Farsi section of the BBC.[10]
