October 2013

Please do not use styles that are unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thank you. We do not simplify articles like that, your formatting changes are awkward, plus the actual article is called Mobile phone form factor, I've never used the term "style" used in this context ViperSnake151  Talk  14:49, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Form factor

Hello there! Please, let's discuss the issues with editing out "form factor" as a term. If might be gramatically incorrect, but it is used in many places around Wikipedia and elsewhere — please have a look at articles Computer form factor, Harddrive#Form factors, Disc form factors#Form factors, Form factor (mobile phones), Small form factor etc. Editing it out in one place would just create a confusion, and "configuration" isn't such a great replacement IMHO.

Changing restrictive relative pronouns "that" to descriptive relative pronoun "which"

Hi, I'm sure you've made the edits to Asynchronous Transfer Mode, DNS spoofing, and Digital subscriber line access multiplexer and a number of others that I aren’t bothered about, in good faith. However, there is a difference between the restrictive and descriptive relative pronouns and the way they should be used. Basically, you need a comma before a descriptive relative pronoun and not before a restrictive one, and many of us, but not all, habitually use “that” for the restrictive and “which” for the descriptive. So your changes, in this regard, look, at least arguably, like a bit of a crusade to reverse that policy, or worse still, vandalism. Fowler's Modern English Usage (pages 634 to 640, in the 2002 reprint of the 1st ed.) should be of some help on this subject.

There may be some merit in the removal of some of the “that”s, as being wordy. But I’m not sorting through those. So I’ve just reverted the edits.

Was just thinking about stuff, and I thought, the nearest I ever got to New York New York was seeing the New York Dolls when they played York University : the story at the time was that it wasn't on the schedule, but the band insisted, because they felt there was/should be some connection between York and New York. Must have been sometime in the early-mid 1970s. I'm struggling to remember where abouts it was on campus (slept since then), but think it might've been Derwent Collage Dining hall. But then much of the 70s is fuzzy - if you remember it well, you weren't really there.

A+E Networks

A+E stands for the A+E Networks (the company) as opposed to the A&E (TV channel) that was also called A&E Network at one point. You do know what the original title was, I assume. Also - and only because you 'piqued my interest' in seeing 'my films (heh-heh), I'm on YouTube, and they've a few of them, on - including a Russian version (English subs), which several people are saying it's 'the best.'

Not gonna watch it tonight. Every night - after I take my sleeping meds (chronic insomnia), I curl up, and watch an 'off the beaten path' film; tonight, it's Stalker (a Russian film, by the man who made the original Solaris (beats the G. Clooney version by a mile - so, what else is new?) and, then - if I'm still awake, I watch an episode of one of my top 3 fave TV series - Danger Man.

There have been numerous films made. Of course, I know the original title -- it's included in the And Then There Were None article, and why it can never be used again. I actually just used Ten Little Indians in my opening comment to you, "RE: UN Owen:" because it was faster (only three words, instead of five), but in the long run I haven't saved any time anyway. Hi UNOwenNYC. I have found again the necessity to change or undo some edits which you have made. Please, can you not read and understand WP:NUMERAL before you change any more numbers, as you clearly are not following its directions. I would also suggest that your grasp of grammar is not as strong as you think, as i have found it necessary to undo several grammatical errors which you have introduced. Finally, may i suggest that you not vent your apparent anger in edit summaries as it doesn't reflect well on you; it's hard to take seriously a user who shouts (ALL CAPS is viewed as shouting) about the inability of some people to write while making errors of their own. Edits and edit summaries at Coureur des bois and elsewhere

You recently made a lot of grammtical changes which were in areas that are at most a matter of personal choice. But then in your edit summaries you used that as a basis to go on an unjustified insult binge agaist the people who built the article, in essence claiming that the previous version was so terrible that that insult binge was justified. You also included a rant that the Wikipedia "overseers" should be stopping people without degrees from editing Wikipedia, and that the "overseers" don't have degrees in what's correct and that you do. I noticed that you also did this at other articles. That is rude and uncalled for. You also appeared to conflict with yourself by saying in essence, that the prose was so bad that you suspect that it was copied from a published textbook. (??) Brite, because however much you might dislike the list of influences, they were given in a direct quote (you may notice the quotation marks ~ those are used to indicate a quote), so cannot be changed, as otherwise we would be making the speaker say something they hadn't said. Bob's Big Boy: insulting edit summary

I appreciate your efforts to improve the Bob's Big Boy article, and I agree that article shouldn't veer off on the Toluca Lake unit's architect's professional portfolio. The article was originally copied from that unit's web site, which included puffery about the architect, Wayne McAllister. Correcting these problems, the McAllister content became pedantic.

A few edits are also required in the history section of the article.

Having said that – while Wikipedia encourages bold editing, it also expects editors to use a positive, civil, respectful tone in all interactions. WP:CIV, WP:EQ Edit summaries should not be aggressive nor snide. WP:ESDONTS It appears that others have expressed the same or similar concerns to you in the past. Continued editing

I have reverted you on brittle star because you (still!) don't understand how numbers work, in addition your edits created grammatical errors, rather than correcting them as your edit summaries stated. I beg of you, please read some of the links you have been given above, and try to understand that we work as a collaborating community, not in competition with each other. I fear that, if you do not start taking some of these things on board, you will end up with your editing privileges revoked, and that would be a shame. Civility is a pillar of Wikipedia

zodiacal

If you consult the Oxford English Dictionary or Collins English Gem Dictionary you will see that 'zodiacal' is indeed a word (the adjective form of 'zodiac'). I note that many other editors have commented on your problems with spelling and/or grammar. Perhaps you could check more carefully before making changes. In The Most Holy Trinosophia you objected strongly to 'zodiacal' with the following description of your change:

"Fixed grammar; there's NO SUCH FORM of 'zodiac' as 'zodiacal'. The dearth of grammar, basic spelling, rudimentary English education is RAMPANT in Wikipedia".

I have consulted 4 different paper dictionaries, plus several online dictionaries, and none of them label 'thus' as archaic.
