From the editors

Welcome to the fifth Bugle for 2020!

With many of us spending lots of time at home at the moment, it's fitting that this edition includes a larger-than-normal set of book reviews. Nick-D discusses a bad book about walls and a good book about the German Army, and Hawkeye7 shares his views on a work on contemporary warfare. The section also includes the usual round-up of some recent reviews of military works published elsewhere.

The article news section also includes a wide range of new featured and A-class content developed by a larger-than-typical range of editors. Many of these articles form part of series, which illustrates some of the advantages of focusing on specific areas.

Iazyges recently had their first Featured Article promoted, Marcian, and Buidhe their first Feature List, List of Holocaust transports from Slovakia -- in each case the first of much featured content we're sure. In reviewing news, Peacemaker67 recently completed his 300th Good Article review, Vami IV has now done more than 200, and Eddie891 recently completed his 50th. Well done to you all!

Your editors, Ian Rose (talk) and Nick-D (talk)

Contest department

  • The fourth month of the 2020 Military History Article Writing Contest attracted nine participants. First place was awarded to Kges1901 with a runaway 174 points from an impressive 29 articles to take the WikiChevrons, followed by Gog the Mild with 98 points, for which they received the Writer's Barnstar. Also scoring were Catlemur, Djmaschek, Harrias, Parsecboy, Peacemaker67, Sturmvogel_66 and Zawed. Congratulations and thanks to all participants. You can self-assess up to C-class for the contest, but B-class assessments need to be done by another editor. This is best organised by posting at WP:MHAR. Make sure to add your entries for the May contest as soon as they are promoted, this allows the coords to check them progressively.
